Hi, I'm Gabrielle. And if you're feeling disassociated, this video is for you. So I encourage you to listen to the video the entire way through, and then repeat it while doing the prompts. So, just a little background. When we're feeling disassociated, often what is happening is that a part of our psyche and our body is actually back in trauma time, either reliving the experience or we're in a fight, flight, freeze reaction in response to the trauma. So one of the most efficient ways to come back to the present is to engage the logical brain. It might seem silly, but by doing so, we're forcing the executive functioning centers of the brain to come back online where we can establish safety and feel grounded again. So if you're feeling disassociated, you've got a couple of options. One of them is to play the Categories game. What do I mean by that is pick a category and then go through the alphabet. So maybe it's cities in Europe, or it's bands from the '90s, or dog breeds. So if it was cities in Europe, I might say Amsterdam, Brussels, Cannes, et cetera. So you just want to go through the alphabet. Another option is to count backwards from 300, but by sevens. So 300, 293, 286, et cetera. The point is for it to feel a little bit taxing, and you want to do this for three to five minutes. And once you've completed, then remind yourself of today's date, the time, where you are, and that you are safe. And when you're ready, choose the next video in folder one and let it support you. And until then, be well.
